The magnetically coded safety sensor allows activation of sensors from different directions, reducing installation time. They provide a low-cost alternative for interlock switches, and since they can function through nonferromagnetic and plastic material, they can be mounted out of sight to further provide tamper resistance. The magnetically coded sensors can also be connected in series and still identify which door is open.

With no moving parts, the design is wear-free for minimal required maintenance over the long service life of the product. It provides intrinsically safe OSSD outputs with no fail-safe relay required.
